Festivals and events deliver a strong cultural identify for a region, and have the potential to deliver broader economic and social benefits for the community and the Territory.
The Northern Territory Government’s Department of Tourism and Culture’s vision is to create compelling reasons to live in and visit the Northern Territory. Tourism is a cornerstone of the NT economy, supporting thousands of small and medium size businesses and 17,000 direct and indirect jobs across a range of sectors.
The Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) facilitates a bi-annual funding program to create new and develop existing events to better engage the local community, attract visitors and showcase the Northern Territory. This funding builds on the FestivalsNT funding program, and offers and expanded range of funding options.
Two different funding streams are offered -
Event Development Funding, which supports events to grow their audiences through expanded programing; and
Strategic Development Funding, which offers once-off funding support to undertake projects which build capability, sustainability and ensure a safe event environment, as well as support for event marketing.
Two funding rounds will be held in 2018. Round one will be open for submissions from May 23 – June 23. Round two will be open for submissions from 30 October – 30 November.
