15 More CBD Walls to Be Painted: Third Darwin Street Art Festival to Boost CBD

The Darwin Street Art Festival is returning for a third year in 2019, with 15 city walls to be transformed into masterpieces by nationally and internationally acclaimed street artists in September.

The festival, which will run from 5 September to 15 September with see artists converge on Darwin to brighten otherwise blank walls within the 2019 theme ‘Northern Wonders’.

The third annual event is sponsored by the Territory Labor Government as part of the Turbocharging Tourism stimulus package, which aims to increase visitation, support local businesses and jobs.

After the success of 2018, Proper Creative and Apparition Media once again join forces to deliver the third festival, with contributing artists such as Shaun Edwards of House of Darwin and Benita and Liam Milner of Luna Tunes with more artists to be announced in coming weeks.

Proper Creative Director David Collins said he was extremely excited to be a part of the 2019 Darwin Street Art Festival.

“This project has gone from strength to strength and this year is shaping up to be dynamic and truly amazing,” he said.

“Watching our local talent grow and prosper with the exposure and experience gained from working alongside the national and international artists has been an absolute highlight.”

“I’m excited to get back home and play my part in making Darwin a beautiful place to live and visit through creativity and art,” added Local Artist Shaun Edwards.

Expressions of interest are open until Tuesday, 20 August for local artists who want to be involved with the festival. Artists are encouraged to submit a sketch and a 100 word explanation of how their artwork relates to the theme via the website www.darwinstreetartfestival.com.au/apply-now.

An extensive program of community events supplement this year’s festival including children’s workshops, paint by numbers, festival hub and a street party to celebrate the completion of the festival in West Lane on Saturday, 14 September complete with cocktails and food trucks.
