Central Australia to host biggest Red CentreNATS yet

Alice Springs is gearing up for an action-packed weekend, with hundreds of cars converging on the Territory town for Red CentreNATS 05.

Held in conjunction with Summernats, event organisers anticipate the 2019 instalment to raise the bar for future years with more vehicles than ever before registered for the fifth annual Red CentreNATS from Friday, 30 August to Sunday, 1 September.

Northern Territory Major Events Company General Manager Tim Watsford said excitement is building in Alice Springs, with hundreds of cars and their entourages in town for the weekend.

“It’s excellent to see this year’s event attracting more entries than ever before and I look forward to admiring the cars on show at Blatherskite Park and watching them in action at Alice Springs Inland Dragway,” he said.

Australia’s ultimate festival of wheels officially kicks off tonight when the single biggest field in Burnout Masters history qualify for top spot at Alice Springs Inland Dragway, with scrutineering, pre-judging and street cruising all well underway.

The action continues tomorrow with a show n shine, 4WD course, grass driving, street parade and the new ‘Heavy Hitter’ drag racing feature category to name a few.

Summernats Co-owner Andy Lopez said this year’s Red CentreNATS is shaping up to be the biggest and best one yet.

“Entries are up again this year and have been increasing every year since the first Red CentreNATS, with the event now a staple on Australia’s automotive calendar of events,” he said.

Divided into two categories, the Heavy Hitters competition will be the main attraction at Alice Springs Inland Dragway tomorrow night with event goers able to witness Australia’s toughest cars battle it out while enjoying live music and fireworks.

The Heavy Hitter competition starts from 7.30pm, with a huge $12,000 in prize money up for grabs.

Red CentreNATS 04 Grand Champion Troy David will be competing in the invitation-only Heavy Hitters competition, as well as a range of other events to defend his title in a stunning 1100 horsepower twin-turbo FJ Holden Ute.

“It’s a real honour to score an invite to the Heavy Hitters competition,” he said.

“There are some really tough cars in the mix and some serious prize money up for grabs – it should be a lot of fun.

“Aside from the drag racing side of the event, I’m hoping to compete for Grand Champion again, though it looks like there will be some tough competition this year.”

The excitement of Red CentreNATS 05 continues on Sunday, with drag racing, grass driving, burnouts and much more to entertain car enthusiasts of all ages.

Australia’s ultimate festival of wheels will wrap up with a Grand Champion Finalist Display, Burnout Masters Finalists’ Display and world-renowned DJ Tom Loud of Hot Dub Time Machine taking the stage at Sunday’s Podium Party.
