Darwin to Host 2020 ANZAC Day Eve NRL Match

The Brisbane Broncos will travel to Darwin to take on the Parramatta Eels on ANZAC Day eve next year.

The Round 7 fixture will be broadcast live on free-to-air television through Channel 9, bringing Friday night footy to the Top End.

Rugby league supporters from across the country will be invited to make the pilgrimage to Darwin for the Anzac Day eve match, before attending dawn services and other commemorative events on Saturday 25 April, paying tribute to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for Australia’s freedom.

As part of the Parramatta Eels partnership with the Territory Labor Government, the club will also travel to the Red Centre for a Community Training Camp in Alice Springs from Tuesday 26 November to Friday 29 November this year.

Parramatta Eels Acting Chief Executive Officer Jim Sarantinos said the significance of ANZAC Day is important to the club, and they felt privileged to commemorate the occasion in Darwin.

“We’re really looking forward to this clash with the Broncos, at our second home,” he said.

“We have an incredibly loyal fan base in the Northern Territory, and we hope to see many of our members and supporters make the trip from interstate to cheer us on.”

Brisbane Broncos Chief Executive Officer Paul White said the club is looking forward to playing in Darwin, having travelled to the Top End twice in the past three years for a series of junior clinics, coaching workshops and fundraising dinners.

“The Broncos have really enjoyed supporting rugby league at a grassroots level in Darwin in recent years,” he said.

“We had really strong turnouts at a number of events – we have a really strong fan base there and we look forward to them coming out to support us against the Eels.”

Local Eels fans will have the opportunity to meet their favourite sporting heroes as part of numerous free events and activities including coaching clinics, school visits, community presentations and open training sessions. More information about the Community Training Camp will be released soon.

Eels fans in the Territory can also take advantage of a special membership package which includes exclusive membership benefits and reserved tickets to the Anzac Day eve clash. To find out more information visit https://www.parraeels.com.au/membership/packages/part-season/territory-eel/
