Dates confirmed for 2026 Alice Springs Masters Games

Get your gear ready! Australia’s longest-running Masters Games, the beloved Alice Springs Masters Games (ASMG), will once again bring its unique spirit of competition and camaraderie to the Red Centre from 10 to 17 October 2026.

This 19th edition promises an even more dynamic program, featuring the exciting addition of the rapidly growing sports of Pickleball and Bridge, alongside a diverse line-up of 20 sports. From the thrill of Mountain Biking and Cycling to the precision of Athletics and Model Aircraft Flying, the team spirit of Aussie 9’s and Netball, and the highly anticipated return of Swimming, the 2026 Games will have something for everyone.

“Swimming Northern Territory is absolutely thrilled to see swimming return to the sports program for the 2026 Alice Springs Masters Games,” said Swimming NT Chief Executive Officer, Warren Dopson. “This is a fantastic opportunity for Masters swimmers to come together, celebrate their passion, and compete in a truly welcoming and supportive environment.”

Established in 1986 and affectionately known as ‘The Friendly Games’, the ASMG is a biennial multi-sport competition that has become deeply cherished by the Alice Springs community.  It’s a highlight for Masters athletes across Australia drawing thousands of participants to the heart of the nation to compete, reconnect with friends from across the country, and immerse themselves in the unparalleled beauty and experiences the Red Centre has to offer.

Building on the successful return of the ASMG in 2024, which generated a total expenditure stimulus of $2.60 million to Alice Springs, with over 1,200 participants competing in 23 sports, thanks to the dedication of 267 volunteers, expert sports coordinators, and skilled sports medicine trainers across 26 venues. The 2026 Games are set to once again capture the heart and spirit of friendly competition.

Adding to the excitement are the continued roles of esteemed Games Ambassador Nathan Buckley and legendary Games Patron Dawn Fraser. Since its inception, the ASMG has proudly stood as the second oldest Masters Games in the world. Beyond the fun and inclusive sporting competition, the Games offer participants and their supporters a unique opportunity to explore the breathtaking landscapes of the Red Centre, from the rich history and vibrant culture of Alice Springs to the awe-inspiring beauty of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges.
