World’s Hottest 7s Rugby Kicks Off at Marrara this Weekend

This weekend, Darwin will host the world-class Hottest 7s competition at the Territory Rugby League Stadium, as international and Australian men’s and women’s teams battle it out for their share in the $86,000 prize pool.

Running from Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 November, the fiercely contested competition will feature over 80 games of Hottest 7s rugby, with 18 senior men’s, eight senior women’s and three under 18 youth boys’ teams competing in the event.

There will be exhibition matches played in under 12 and 15 boys’ and girls’ divisions which will feature two combined Jabiru and Nhulunbuy teams, and an under 15 youth girls’ and boys’ team from South Australia.

Northern Territory Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer Tamie Needham said 2019 marks the first year the event is held in November.

“The competition was previously held in January, so we’re looking forward to being able to showcase Darwin, the Top End and our sport at this new time of year,” she said.

“Players, spectators and fans will really enjoy the new location as Territory Rugby League Stadium offers closer viewing opportunities.”

Spectator entry is $10 for a day pass, or $20 for a weekend pass, with children under 18 offered free entry. Tickets can be pre purchased through Northern Territory Rugby and are available at the gate.
