Country Championships sees swimmers make a splash

Athletes are set to dive into the 2024 Country Swimming Championships at Parap Pool this weekend.

Some of the best regional swimmers from across Australia will compete in the Championships when it takes place from 27 to 30 September. Additionally, there will also be an open water team relay on Tuesday 1 October at the Darwin Waterfront, which is open to group and corporate entries.

Olympian Chelsea Hodges will be returning as the Country Swimming Championships ambassador and is headlining the Pho3nix Foundation JX Clinic and Senior Swimmer clinics on Thursday 26 September as well as being available for meet and greets on Friday 27 September.

The Championships feature events for swimmers aged nine and older, with free admission for spectators. Competitors aged nine to 13 can also take part in the Pho3nix Foundation JX Clinic – where they will learn skills to help them take their performance to the next level.

Swimming Northern Territory Chief Executive Officer Warren Dopson said: “these Championships provide a great opportunity for regional based swimmers across the country to come together to compete in a competitive, yet fun environment that normally eludes them.”

“We are putting on a huge event this year that includes a raft of activities for our participants to attend, in and out of the water.

“In our third year now, this is becoming a must‑attend event on the Australian swimming calendar.”

Prior to the Championships kicking off on Friday, Swimming Northern Territory will be hosting an in-pool movie night. The ticketed film on the night of Thursday 26 September, which is open to the public, will screen animated family film The Bad Guys.
