A further 18 x $10,000 fish have been flipped into million-dollar barra today as part of Million Dollar Fish Season 9, where someone is guaranteed to win a million. It’s time to hit the water and wet a line as Australia’s richest fishing competition, supported by SportsBet, reaches new heights with March Madness.
It means there’s now a staggering 60 barramundi across Top End waterways sporting a million-dollar bounty. So if a fisho reels in a red-tagged barra, there is about a three-in-five chance it will be one of ‘the big ones’. The are still 43 x $10,000 red-tagged barra eligible to be caught.
SportsBet NT Operations and Partnerships Manager Thijs Bors says this exciting change would increase the odds of someone reeling in the million-dollar fish.
“We are so close to making someone a millionaire! The whole SportsBet team can’t wait for this to happen. It’s been nine seasons in the making and it’s finally nearly here,” he says.
“I can’t stress this enough – the more you fish, the greater your chance of reeling in a red tag. So make sure you’re registered, and get out there on the water.”
Season 9 has been full of surprises, from news that the million was guaranteed to go off to turning multiple $10,000 barra into million-dollar beauties. Last week organisers also shared a map detailing where some of the million-dollar barra were released. Keep an eye on the Million Dollar Fish socials to keep up-to-date with all the exciting changes.
More than a million dollars have been given away to lucky fishos since Million Dollar Fish began in 2015. This includes eight anglers who have reeled in a $10k fish during Season 9 – one was worth $20,000.
Anglers can rest assured there are multiple million-dollar tagged fish in each of the five fishing regions – Arnhem Land, Darwin, Kakadu, Katherine and the Tiwi Islands. Once a million-dollar tagged barra is hooked, all other million-dollar tagged fish revert to $10,000 fish for the rest of Season 9.
Delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC), Million Dollar Fish Season 9 runs from 1 October 2023 to 31 March 2024. To claim any prize money from a red-tagged barra, a fisho must be registered for Season 9. This also automatically enters them into the Lucky Prize Pool, with thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes up for grabs. Register now for free at www.milliondollarfish.com.au.
