The Darwin Esplanade will come alive this weekend for the Top End’s largest celebration of Greek culture at the iconic GleNTi Festival.
An annual highlight on the Dry Season calendar, thousands of people are expected to descend on Bicentennial Park on Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8, to experience an authentic slice of Greece through food, music, and dance.
From seftalies and souvla, to yiros meats, grilled octopus, calamari, dolmades, haloumi, and homemade sweet treats – there’s something for every tastebud.
Beyond the culinary delights, there is plenty on offer in the way of traditional dancing from several local traditional dance groups, captivating cultural performances, and a fascinating showcase of Hellenic history. Festival-goers can also revel in live music from both local and interstate artists, featuring a special performance by the GleNTi All-Star Band, flying in exclusively for the occasion.
For those with a competitive streak, highlights include a pita-eating competition, drawing contests, and the ever-popular plate-breaking challenge. Families can enjoy amusement rides, children’s entertainment and a special appearance by “The Smurfs”, live on stage for their first-ever Darwin show.
The GleNTi Festival is proudly delivered by the Greek Orthodox Community of North Australia and supported by the Northern Territory Government through the NT Major Events Funding Program.
The 2025 Darwin GleNTi runs from 11 am until 10 pm on Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8, and is free to attend. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/glenti.com.au.
