Another massive BASSINTHEGRASS for Darwin

The Northern Territory’s largest music festival, BASSINTHEGRASS, has wrapped up for another year with almost 14,000 people packing out Darwin’s iconic Mindil Beach and enjoying music from some of Australia’s biggest music stars.

It comes days after BASSINTHEGRASS 2022 received two awards in the global Eventex Awards, one in the Best Australian/Oceanian Event category and one in the Best Festival category.

This year, crowds lapped up music from the likes of Peach PRC, San Cisco, Babe Rainbow and the Northern Territory’s own Baker Boy who, unsurprisingly, drew an extra-large crowd before the sun sank into the Arafura Sea. Then it was the turn of more top acts, including Spacey Jane, Angus & Julia Stone and The Presets, who wowed the crowd well into the night.

Festivalgoers were privileged to experience a special Welcome to Country and Saltwater Ceremony on the beach, delivered by Larrakia Elder Dr Richie Fejo, who welcomed everyone to Larrakia country.

BASSINTHEGRASS is delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC). NTMEC CEO Suzana Bishop said it was another great turnout.

“This iconic, award-winning music festival has again proven that Darwin is the place to be when it comes to events. Around a quarter of attendees travelled from interstate to attend, and there was a healthy sprinkling of international visitors too,” Mrs Bishop said.

“Thousands of music lovers gathered on Mindil Beach to dance under palm trees and clear blue skies against the backdrop of a stunning sunset. This combination makes BASS a stand-out among Australian music festivals.

“Each year BASS’s reputation keeps on growing, and for good reason. Not only do attendees get to enjoy a day of amazing music – they also get to enjoy everything else the Northern Territory has to offer, including ancient Indigenous culture, exciting tourism experiences and Australia’s best sunsets.”

BASSINTHEGRASS will return to Mindil Beach in 2024, with the date to be announced later this year. Sign up to be one of the first to know at www.bassinthegrass.com.au
