FIRST LOOK: AUSTRALIA’S NEW INTERNATIONAL MOTOCROSS TRACK REVEALED

The countdown to the inaugural MXGP of Australia has begun, and fans now have their first glimpse of Darwin’s cutting-edge motocross track design, set to host the final round of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP).

A dynamic animated flythrough has been released, showcasing the state-of-the-art Hidden Valley MXGP track, purpose-built to meet international standards and challenge the world’s best motocross riders when the championship returns to Australia for the first time in 24 years.

Spanning 1.6km, the permanent track at Hidden Valley Motorsports Complex is unlike anything seen before in Australian motocross. Designed by Protraxx, Australia’s leading motocross track specialists, it features:

  • 22 corners, 21 jumps, and a 90m start straight
  • A rolling waves section and massive triple step-up
  • 100-foot (30m) jumps for adrenaline-packed action
  • A 70% sand / 30% clay blend to reward skill and precision
  • Natural elevation changes for optimal spectator views

The world-class design will push riders to their limits, delivering high-speed, high stakes racing that will captivate fans on-site and worldwide.

Australian motocross legend Jeff Leisk, the first Aussie to win a World Motocross Grand Prix, praised the new track.

“The design Protraxx has delivered is epic. The world’s best riders want to be challenged—pushed to the absolute limit of control—to gain an advantage over their rivals. This track has all the elements to do just that.”

“What I also love is that spectators will be able to see most of the track from almost every vantage point. And because it’s part of the Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex, it has all the facilities needed to make the fan experience world-class. Kudos to the NT Government for bringing MXGP to Australia,” he said.

Delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) in partnership with Infront Moto Racing and Motorcycling Australia, the MXGP of Australia will be held in Darwin from 19–21 September 2025 and continue for at least five years.

With a global audience of 700 million+ across 100 countries, this event cements Darwin’s place on the international motorsport stage.

Infront Moto Racing also praised the track’s unique layout and its ability to enhance the viewing experience

“The new motocross track in Darwin is a perfect blend of tradition and modern design. It combines the best of both worlds—with technical, demanding sections alongside fast-paced stretches that will truly test riders’ skill and potential. What makes it even more special is the spectator experience: fans can enjoy an incredible view of almost the entire track from any viewing point, making every moment of the race easy to follow and enjoy.”

For the first time in history, the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship (WMX) will race on Australian soil alongside the MXGP and MX2 categories. The event will also feature a uniquely Australian twist with the debut of a ‘State of Origin’-style support class for MX3 and MX85—showcasing the nation’s rising motocross stars.
