The popular Pop-Up Parks series returns to Alice Springs this year, providing opportunities for families to connect for some free fun in the great outdoors. The first takes place on Friday, 18 March, from 5.30-8pm at Flynn Drive Oval in Gillen.
An initiative of Alice Springs Town Council, supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company, each event will give attendees the chance to try something different.
NT Major Events Company CEO Tim Watsford said the Pop-Up Parks series is a great example of grass roots community events that help people connect with others in their area.
“These events are free, and help Alice residents get out and enjoy their beautiful environment. Gatherings like this can provide support and connection, which have become even more vital for us all after the last couple of years, but are especially important for families. Being a parent can sometimes be a lonely, isolating role, but at Pop-Up Parks you can meet others on the same journey,” he said.
As well as a Girl Guides BBQ, food vendors, kids games and more, the unveiling of a new women in sport mural will take place at the Flynn Drive Oval event, and attendees will be able to try their hand at, and sign up for, local cricket teams.
Other events will take place on 22 April at Albrecht Oval, 26 August at Rhonda Diano Oval and 30 September at Ross Park.
