With just 100 days to go until the popular Darwin round of the Australian Supercars championship, things are speeding up with garage door opener industry leader Merlin signing on as Naming Rights sponsor for the event for the next two years.
The Merlin Darwin Triple Crown is fast becoming the most eagerly anticipated round of the championship, and the new partnership aligns the Territory’s largest motorsports event with a well-recognised multinational garage door opener and accessories company.
“We are incredibly proud to throw our support behind a sport that we love and become a race name sponsor for the upcoming Darwin Triple Crown,” Merlin Director, Marketing & Strategic Partnerships, Grant Emanuel said.
“This partnership with Supercars and our continued relationship with our brand ambassador, Supercars legend Greg Murphy, helps us showcase our Merlin offer to an audience of car enthusiasts who really value securing and protecting their prized possessions.”
The new Naming Rights partner is another welcome addition to the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown, which boasts its largest program ever this year. Joining the Supercars in Darwin for 2021 are the Australian Superbikes, Super Stadium Trucks, and Nitro Up North, featuring the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars and Australian Top Door Slammers.
Organisers today also confirmed Bernard Fanning, lead vocalist of legendary band Powderfinger, will headline the Saturday evening concert. Other acts include Brisbane’s Ball Park Music and electronic musician Alice Ivy, promising a non-stop evening of entertainment.
The Merlin Darwin Triple Crown is delivered by the Northern Territory Government through the Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC). NTMEC CEO Tim Watsford said Merlin is a welcome addition to the event.
“The Merlin Darwin Triple Crown is the biggest event in the Territory, and has a loyal following of fans. Many make the journey to Darwin each year to see their favourite drivers take on the unique track at Hidden Valley, with its 1.1km straight, which is one of the longest in Australia,” Mr Watsford said.
“In a normal year the event attracts more than 30,000 visitors, and is viewed by thousands more through free-to-air broadcast. With multiple partnership choices out there, we are delighted Merlin has recognised the synergies between our event and their brand, and look forward to the mutual benefits this partnership will bring.”
Ticket sales are moving quickly for the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown, with more than 80 per cent of corporate hospitality now sold out. To cope with demand, tickets for a new hospitality option are now on sale. The Hidden Valley Club is situated at the top of the Valley and offers an elevated vantage point and prime track viewing.
The Merlin Darwin Triple Crown takes place from 18-20 June 2021. Book your ticket today at www.darwinsupercars.com.au.
