The Top End is gearing up for a high-stakes motocross spectacle as the MXGP of Australia roars into Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway from 19-21 September 2025, marking the FIM Motocross World Championship’s highly anticipated return to Australia after 24 years.
As the climactic final round of the 2025 FIM World Motocross Championship series, Darwin is set to witness history on a purpose-built, 1.6-kilometre world-class track, with three 2025 World Champions to be crowned on home soil.
The MXGP of Australia promises three days of thrilling track action with the on-track timetable catering for racing fans, teams and riders. Day one of racing kicks off on Friday, 19 September, with the national support classes. The MX85 class will have all three of its races, each a fierce 15 minutes plus 1 lap, while the MX3 class begins its first two races each for 20 minutes plus 1 lap.
Saturday, 20 September brings a packed schedule, with Qualifying sessions and a historic milestone as the FIM Women’s World Championship makes its Australian debut. The day begins early with WMX, MX2, and MXGP Free Practice sessions. Qualifying sessions for WMX, MX2, and MXGP will dominate the afternoon, while the final Aussie MX3 Race 3 takes place at 4:45pm (20 minutes + 1 lap).
The main event day on Sunday will host the FIM World Championship Races and features warm-up sessions for WMX, MX2, and MXGP. First up on the podiums will be the crowning of the 2025 WMX World Champion. Fans can then look forward to two intense GPs for both the MX2 and MXGP classes, as the afternoon and race weekend ends with MX2 Race 2 at 3:00pm and MXGP Race 2 at 4:00pm, and then 2025 world champions will be crowned.
Darwin is the 20th and final round for MXGP and MX2, and the 6th and final round for WMX, culminating a 24-week, six-country journey for the women’s series. The thrilling possibility remains, pending progressive points tallies that the winners of all three coveted FIM World Championship titles could be decided in the Top End, making it an unmissable event for motorsport fans globally.
Beyond the international battles, the on-track timetable highlights Australia’s motocross future through vital national support classes. Selected Australian riders will be given wildcard entries into the MXGP, MX2, and WMX classes, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete against the world’s best MX riders.
A thrilling addition is the Motorcycling Australia (MA) State Challenge. This initiative features the MX3 class (14-18 years) and the MX85 class (12-16 years). Each State Controlling Body in Australia will select two six-rider MX3 and MX85 teams via their own qualifying processes, which will include ProMX and state championship events. In Darwin, three trophies will be awarded: to the top states in MX3 and MX85, and an overall winner.
