NRL set to return to the Territory in April 2022

The Northern Territory has secured a massive coup for elite sporting fans with confirmation the Parramatta Eels will take on North Queensland Cowboys at TIO Stadium on April 30 next year.

This match forms part of the Territory Labor Government’s partnership with the Parramatta Eels and follows the prestigious 2021 Anzac Round clash in Darwin, which saw the Eels face the Brisbane Broncos.

Parramatta Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos said he and the team were looking forward to returning to the Territory.

“We’re thrilled to return to Darwin next year to put on a wonderful game of Rugby League against the Cowboys and showcase the beauty of the Northern Territory,” he said.

“Our partnership with NTMEC is one of the longest-standing partnerships in Australian professional sport and, after the challenges faced in 2021, we can’t wait to get up to Darwin as a team.”

The partnership provides a range of benefits for the Territory, with visiting NRL teams taking part in community engagement initiatives while in the Top End, and the Territory will be beamed on to TV screens nationwide via the live broadcast.

Past community engagement examples include training sessions with local school students, the Eels Mataranka Sports Expo and a Wheelchair Rugby League come and try day.

Details of next year’s initiatives will be confirmed at a later date.
