Northern Territory Major Events Company makes waves on national stage

Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) has been honoured by the country’s leading event experts, winning three Australian Event Awards in Sydney this week.

NTMEC was awarded Best Regional Event and Best Tourism Event for Parrtjima – A Festival in Light. The tightly contested awards saw Parrtjima beat the likes of Vivid Sydney 2024 and Tasmania’s Taste of Summer 2023 in the Best Tourism Event category.

The Northern Territory received the prestigious Best State/Territory Event award, with NTMEC’s two additional accolades contributing to this recognition. The State or Territory Award is shared alongside fellow national nominees Activate Darwin, Darwin Waterfront Corporation, Associated Advertising & Promotions and Bagala Aboriginal Corporation.

Parrtjima was also shortlisted in the Australian Event of the Year category.

The judges said: “The juxtaposition of the ancient and the modern Aboriginal culture was very well done and delivered with a high degree of complexity.”

“The stunning light installations showcase your creativity, innovation and attention to detail that set you apart from the rest.”

Parrtjima – A Festival in Light will celebrate its 10th iteration from 4-13 April, 2025. This immersive event is delivered in partnership with creative company Grumpy Sailor and events destination company We Are Gather, under the guidance of Curator Rhoda Roberts, Cultural Advisor Paul Ah Chee and the Parrtjima Festival Reference Group.

The Company also received recognition as a national nominee and state winner for Best Sporting Event with betr Darwin Triple Crown Supercars Indigenous Round 2024.

These awards continue a tradition of recognition for NTMEC at the Australian Event Awards, which celebrate excellence and innovation in the events industry across the country.

The Company’s portfolio of events includes Parrtjima – A Festival in Light, Million Dollar Fish, BASSINTHEGRASS Music Festival, the Territory’s annual NRL game, Darwin Triple Crown Supercars Indigenous Round, Territory Day, Red CentreNATS, and the Alice Springs Masters Games. NTMEC will also deliver for the first time the FIM Motocross World Championship Australia in 2025. The events build on the liveability of the Territory and draws people from around the world to experience incredible events and immerse themselves in the unique culture of the Northern Territory.
