The Tailor-Made Building Services NT PGA Championship is set to make its highly anticipated return to the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia in 2025, with some of Australia’s best golfers teeing off at the Palmerston Golf and Country Club from 28-31 August.
After a brief hiatus in 2024 to allow for a multi-million-dollar redevelopment of Palmerston Golf Club and course, the NT round of the PGA Championship was last played in 2023, when New South Wales professional golfer Daniel Gale claimed victory by just four shots over Queensland’s Chris Crabtree to secure the title.
Palmerston Golf & Country Club General Manager, Matt Hewer, welcomes the news of this year’s PGA Championships being broadcast on television.
“After the clubhouse undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation and course upgrades specifically to the irrigation systems, this a great time to showcase not only the event, but the entire NT to a national audience on TV,” he said.
First held in 1995, the NT PGA Championship has crowned some of golf’s rising stars, with past champions Jordan Zunic, Austin Bautista, Travis Smyth, and local favourite Aaron Pike. The tournament will be the second event of the 2025/26 Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia season, following the PNG Open at Royal Port Moresby Golf Club from 14-17 August 2025.
As the Top End’s premier golf event, the NT PGA Championship attracts a world-class field, with competitors expected from across the globe to compete for a share of the $200,000 prize money. In past years, players have represented Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, the USA, Papua New Guinea, and the UK. Adding to the tournament’s unique appeal, both men and women compete alongside each other, making it a truly inclusive showcase of talent.
PGA of Australia General Manager of Tournaments and Global Tour Relationships, Nick Dastey is excited golf is returning to the Top End.
“We’re looking forward to getting back to Palmerston Golf and Country Club and seeing the results of all the renovations that have been undertaken there on and off the golf course.
“The NT PGA Championship has an atmosphere all its own. It’s one that our players embrace and really look forward to being part of.
“Televising the event for the first time is going to help take the tournament to the next level. It gives us the opportunity to really promote the Territory and all the great things to do in the area, including as a golfing destination,” said Mr Dastey.
A number of events will take place throughout the championship week, including a junior clinic with the pros, a Junior Pro-Am, a Ladies clinic, Indigenous participation engagement program, and a sponsor’s Pro-Am golf day.
Supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company’s Event Funding Program, the NT PGA Championship offers a fantastic opportunity for aspiring Territory golfers to witness elite professionals showcase their skills up close.
This exciting comeback promises a world-class tournament experience, set against the backdrop of the club’s newly upgraded facilities. The event is free to attend, with tee-off times between 7am and 9am, at the Palmerston Golf & Country Club. For the first time, the final two rounds will be broadcast live by Fox Sports on Foxtel and Kayo.
