Events across the Northern Territory will receive a funding boost with 14 recipients selected in Round 1 of the 2024-25 Event Funding Program.
The funded events, covering diverse categories such as Aboriginal cultural events, arts, food, comedy, and sporting events will take place across the Territory.
The EFP supports the local events sector, helps attract new events to the Territory, boosts tourism and visitation, and enhances the Territory lifestyle by helping to build a year-round events calendar.
The program, administered by Northern Territory Major Events Company, will see seven events supported in the Greater Darwin region: Garrmalang Festival 2025, Thailand Grand Festival 2025, Italian Festival 2025, Darwin Fringe Festival 2025, Northern Territory PGA 2025, Darwin Comedy Festival 2025 and Hottest Sevens in the World 2024. Four events in Central Australia: Wide Open Space Festival 2025, Tatts Finke Desert Race 2025, Imparja Cup 2025 and NT Writers Festival 2025 and one in the Big Rivers region: Barunga Festival 2025.
Two other events, Darwin Symphony Orchestra NT Tour 2025 and Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025 will be held in multiple locations.
Among the list is two newly funded events, Darwin Symphony Orchestra NT Tour 2025 which will visit Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs, and the exciting Darwin Comedy Festival 2025 produced by Darwin Entertainment Centre.
Darwin Symphony Orchestra General Manager, Kate Stephens, is excited the funding can help make the Territory tour happen.
“Darwin Symphony Orchestra is delighted to receive support from the Event Funding Program for our 2025 NT Tour. For the first time in a decade, we will take the whole orchestra on the road to bring inspiring orchestral performances to Katherine, Tennant Creek, and Alice Springs, in a program that celebrates Territory talent and connects with communities” she said.
The events funded in Round 1 of the 2024-25 Event Funding Program builds on the 19 multi-year funded events including Garma Festival, Darwin Festival and fabALICE.
