World-Class MXGP of Australia Track Completed and Ready for Racing

After five months of precision construction, the purpose-built MXGP of Australia track at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway is ready for action.

The state-of-the-art circuit will host the FIM Motocross World Championship’s highly anticipated return to Australia, from 19–21 September 2025, when the world’s best riders will battle it out at the season finale.

Following foundational works from local construction company Sitzler, the track has been expertly designed and built by Protraxx, Australia’s leading motocross track builders. Protraxx has engineered the 1.6-kilometre permanent circuit to meet strict international standards and provide riders and spectators with an unforgettable experience.

The track features 22 corners, 21 jumps, and a 90-metre start straight that runs across the Hidden Valley Road Racing Circuit. Unique elements include a rolling waves section, a triple step-up, and 30-metre (100-foot) jumps, ensuring both technical complexity and heart-pumping action.

Construction of this final stage took 25 days and moved around 46,000 cubic metres of soil — the equivalent of more than 1,930 truckloads. The surface, a 70% sand and 30% clay blend, rewards skill and precision, setting the stage for thrilling battles on Australian soil. The circuit has been inspected and cleared for racing by Motorcycling Australia officials.

Designed to maximise Hidden Valley’s natural undulations, the circuit offers outstanding visibility for spectators, with clear views of nearly the entire track from multiple vantage points, ensuring fans won’t miss a moment of the action.

“We are proud to deliver a purpose-built track in Darwin that meets international standards for the return of MXGP to Australia,” said Protraxx Director Josh Proctor. “It has been a significant effort from our team and everyone involved in the lead-up to this build, and the result is a world-class circuit designed to challenge the best riders in the world and provide fans with an unforgettable racing experience. We are excited for race day to see the MXGP riders put our track to the test.”

The MXGP of Australia marks the first time in 24 years that the FIM Motocross World Championship will be staged in Australia. Darwin will host the season’s electrifying finale, with three 2025 World Champions to be crowned across MXGP, MX2 and WMX classes, with the Women’s World Championship making its Australian debut at the event.

Delivered in partnership with MXGP rights-holder Infront Moto Racing and Motorcycling Australia, this international sporting spectacle promises to be a highlight of the global motocross calendar.

“The build-up to the MXGP of Australia has already been huge, but now the anticipation has gone to another level with the official unveiling of this magnificent grand prix layout,” said Motorcycling Australia Chief Executive Officer Peter Doyle. “It’s no shrinking violet either: it’s been engineered to provide the ultimate challenge for all riders, from the MXGP elite to the juniors who will be competing in the MA Motocross State Challenge.”
