Some of Australia’s best Paralympians will be competing in the Top End this July as part of the National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL) Finals. This is the first time the event will take place in the Territory after being cancelled in 2021 due to COVID-19,
Scheduled to take place from 15-17 July at Darwin Basketball Stadium, the event will feature both women’s and men’s teams vying for the 2022 Wheelchair Leagues National Championship.
The competition includes top teams from Sydney, Wollongong, Brisbane and Perth, with many players and supporters travelling to the Top End for the much-anticipated event.
Darwin Basketball Association Executive Officer Kerri Savidge said it was a huge win for the Territory.
“This is big. Darwin will be hosting several male and female Paralympians in the Wheelchair League National finals in July 2022,” she said. “The finals will showcase pathway and career opportunities for participants with a disability in our community.
“These athletes will have the opportunity to see the best of what the Territory has to offer – hospitality, Dry Season weather, high-quality sporting facilities and accessibility.”
The National Wheelchair Basketball Finals are supported by the Northern Territory Government through the Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC).
